We just got back from the most fun trip and I’ve been so excited to share this post. I think the pictures are some of my favourites to date!
We genuinely do love the great outdoors, but are definitely not campers, so when we heard about Larchfield Estate having a new glamping experience, we were totally on board with giving it a go, luxury style! It’s a brand new addition from the multi-award winning estate, renowned as a beautiful wedding venue and, more recently, luxury five star accommodation too.
Indeed, time at Larchfield is time well spent. From the moment you enter the six hundred acres of grounds – from rolling fields to walled gardens, cobbled courtyards and old stone buildings – you make a shift to another era. There is a sense of peace and escapism – a little break away from the real world for a moment or two.
We arrived en masse, with the whole family, to the warmest welcome from owners Gavin and Sarah. Their hospitality was just second to none, and we were totally blown away by their recently finished new project – the converted 1920’s French army truck that we were lucky enough to be staying in. It accommodates two and is the perfect romantic getaway, complete with log burning stove, Persian carpet, sun deck and the most incredible sauna nestled inside the most beautifully designed barrel.
The kids stayed with us for the early evening and loved every second of meeting the estate birds of prey, as well as fishing for their own trout in the lake nearby. Dinner was a gourmet barbecue, cooked on the huge fire pit at the truck, and served with the most delicious salad accompaniments and drinks. Sarah and Gavin have thought of everything here, from the ‘mini’ bar (there was nothing mini about it!) housed inside a vintage suitcase, to the fluffy robes and slippers in the bathroom, guaranteeing the full luxury experience.
When the kids left (Andrew’s parents were really kindly minding them for us!) we quickly changed, lit the sauna fire and the stove in the main truck, grabbed a drink and settled in for the evening. It’s hard to describe adequately how idyllic the whole evening was. There is something about being separate from all the demands of the everyday, and also right in the centre of nature, that is so calming for a busy mind. We could hear the long eared owls out on their nightly prowl, see butterflies and moths dance over the lake, and watch the light fade so gradually until we had to light lanterns and sit a little more. We slept so soundly and woke to ducks fluttering on the lake and the sun just breaking the trees.
All the accommodation at Larchfield Estate comes complete with its own breakfast hamper full of locally sourced and homemade contents. From freshly baked bread, to jam made from fruit foraged on the estate, this is a totally unique breakfast experience, even moreso when you get to cook your farm fresh eggs on a pan over the stove! It was completely delicious and, fuelled up for the day, we headed up to the main house for a tour of the rest of the grounds.
Sarah showed us around the wedding barn, walled garden and Orangery before letting us have a quick peek into the other beautiful on site accommodation. I totally fell in love with Farm Cottage and am dying to go back to stay with the children as well. The cottages can be booked all year round and offer luxurious accommodation for couples, and families too!
We had the most amazing anniversary trip away. It’s one that we’ll not forget (or stop talking about!) for a while. Larchfield Estate is a very special place for so many who have held events, ceremonies and receptions here. And now it’s super special to us too.
Owners Gavin and Sarah are celebrating ten years of running the estate (and also ten years of marriage!) by launching a competition for you guys to enter!
The prize is an overnight stay for ten people in their onsite cottages (how amazing would it be to bring the whole family?!) including Prosecco on arrival, dinner, and an experience of your choice (choose from fishing, spa treatments, go karting and more!)
** We were invited to stay at Larchfield Estate for the purposes of this piece, but all images, words, opinions and new love of glamping entirely our own. 🙂 **
