The thing about style in Winter, and particularly January, is that I’m already one season ahead and fully focused on all the new-in delights that Spring has to offer. I’m having a complete love affair with everything blush pink at the minute (‘what’s new?’ I hear you murmur! 🙂 ) and I’ve already spied quite a few potential purchases for the brighter days ahead.
But there are several more weeks of temperamental weather and colder climes, before we can crack out the sandals and bare legs, and these months I think are all about consolidating your wardrobe as is. And learning to adapt the pieces that you might have already.
Case in point. One particularly shimmery skirt…
I bought this metallic midi back in December and was a little unsure at first as to how I’d get away with it in the colder weather. I’m such a wimp when it comes to being chilly, and definitely not one to suffer in the name of style. I love the whole ankle boots with skirts vibe, but my issue has always been those goosebumped inches between boot end and skirt beginning. 750 Denier tights seemed the only reasonable solution, but perhaps not the chicest of ones. 😉
I’ve been after some knee length or over-the-knee boots for a while now, and when I laid eyes on these ones a few weeks ago I knew that they’d be a match made in midi-skirt heaven. I’m still working up the courage to wear them with anything shorter (can a 38 year old, married mum of three get away with that? Answers on a postcard you guys!) but for all my longer dresses and cropped trousers these have been a complete wardrobe transformer. You can even squeeze a pair of thick tights underneath and be a bit smug about the fact that you are super cosy whilst wearing a skirt. In Winter. 🙂
This little cashmere jumper has been a wardrobe staple since the Autumn too. Super soft, I’ve been putting it with everything – from skirts of all lengths, to jeans and trousers, it’s just one of those basics that instantly makes you feel a little bit more ‘put together’. (well, I like to think so anyway. You can be the judge!)
Kicking right back at these grey weather days with a little grey of my own!
Some other alternatives to create this look…
This skirt is beautiful, and would carry you right through until the Spring. If metallic is more your thing then try this one, or I’m completely lusting after this one (blush pink, told you!) for the season ahead.
I don’t think you can beat Uniqlo for reasonably priced cashmere (lots in the sale at the moment!) but my other favourite is Boden. They wash really well and have a really lovely, heavy weight to them too. Super cosy!
