a bit of a catch up!

summer so far, home plans and holidays are coming!

It feels like the longest time since I wrote a proper catch up post on here. I’m not sure where this whole blogging thing is at right now? Do people even read them anymore? I like to hope they still do, even though it does feel at times like the whole world has been taken over by Instagram!

Speaking of which – thoughts on IGTV? I’m mostly petrified of a whole new facet to try and get my head around. I mean, I’m just getting to grips with Stories and even feel like I’m failing on that front 97% of the time. Hasn’t everything just become so GLOSSY lately? Imagery is magazine led perfection, video content is film worthy, you’re noone if you haven’t got a drone (lols for that time Andrew bought me one and I made him return it because I am the least technical person ever and the most likely person to BREAK it ever 🙂 ) I’m so here for beautiful, inspirational content, and in all honesty it’s that that I gravitate towards when I’m on a Pinterest/ IG/ Blog browse, but I think lately I’m just so much more realistic about how I interpret it. You can’t beat a cheesy photo line up guys. Keep your lavender fields and beach sunsets – get everyone doing their thing by the side wall and I’m a happy lady. 😉

We’re off on holidays next week and I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to it. I mentioned this on Instagram the other day, but it’s time away from the distractions of home that I’ve really been craving lately. Each and every Summer season I become acutely aware of just how fast the kids are growing. I mean, we’ll have a teenager in October which Blows. My. Mind. How can this even be? I love travel with my gang so much because it’s the conversations in transit that are often the most memorable of all. Like that time when the penny dropped and Noah made the connection between the Duomo in Florence and the sketches of it in the museum in Vinci. Or perfecting our pronunciation of Stracciatella , which is the most important thing you need to know in Italian. 🙂 Even the hairy mountain roads and sweaty public transport that we still laugh about (I 100% was not laughing at the time!) It’s all so much better because we are experiencing it with them. Ready for you, 2018 road trip! Once I get my head around one suitcase for five people that is. Yikes!

Obviously the most sensible thing to do right before holidays is to plan a room revamp, right? Ha!

I’ve been wanting to paint our playroom for a good year now, and with doing the office the past six months, we just never got around to it. Us Martins always work best under pressure (I feel like that applies to so many areas of our lives!) and so we kind of just went for it last weekend. Andrew Martin is forever my hero for just getting the job done, even if he did go back to work on Monday wondering how he got himself talked into it! Anyhow, it is looking so good so far! Our new sofa is arriving when we get back in August, and I’ve my eye on a chair and a few other bits and pieces so I’ll keep you posted on the progress. We sold our old furniture less than five minutes after listing it on GumTree the other evening. It’s probably just as well really, because even though it was definitely home to a few questionable marks, I was strangely so sad to see it go. I’m not so sentimental usually, but there’s something about the place that you nursed your babies, isn’t there? Another little letting go. There are too many of them these days for this overly emotional Mama!

I hope you are all so well and enjoying every second of this Summer so far. As always, thank you so much for every tiny encouragement you send our way. They are so appreciated, truly they are!

Emma x

Emma I love reading your posts. Not only are they inspiring but heartfelt. In a time of everything being so materialistic, you focus on shared values, mindfulness and the importance of quality time with family. Keep doing what you’re doing.

I really enjoy reading your blog and hope you keep it up. I don’t get a chance to check instagram because I can’t access it when I’m at work. Your family is lovely and I like hearing about your Irish adventures from my home in Pennsylvania.

Yes we still ready blogs! I hope so anyway lol. I don’t think I’ll ever move on enough to stop reading blogs. Although I do like Instagram, it’s not the same chatty place that a blog is. I like the diversity of photographs that a blog lends itself to. Your holiday plans sound good and I know what you mean about family holidays – so important to regroup isn’t it? Gorgeous photographs as always, i look forward to seeing your playroom plans. xx
