When we were in the final stages of finishing off Little Wood, there wasn’t a homewares website, brochure or magazine that I didn’t pore over. Our budget was very limited, right at the end, and I had to work very hard to achieve the look I wanted at a much lower price point.
One of my biggest difficulties was in finding pretty, quirky lighting at an affordable price. Lamps are expensive these days, hey?
I think lighting is a bit underrated really. It serves a purpose, doesn’t it? But my research eighteen months ago also taught me that it can be such a feature in a room too. And so my lamp obsession began!
When Homebase contacted me recently to have a look at their current lighting collection, I was happy to oblige. I must admit, I had visions of aisles of spot lights and strip lighting – perhaps more suited to Mr M’s outhouse than my cosy home! But I was so pleasantly surprised by the selection and actually could have kitted out a few rooms with the choices on offer.
We went with the intention of buying bedside lamps, as ours were damaged in the move, and we haven’t had proper lighting there since. I chose these pretty, simple little Abby Distressed Bases in Antique Cream and paired them with the Twist Shade in Cream. I love how clean and unfussy they look, and we are really enjoying being able to see to read at night again! 😉
The bedsides were so affordable that I also picked up this beautiful Teacup Ceramic Table Lamp for our kitchen dresser. It is an area in our kitchen that’s a little dark at times, and as soon as I saw it, I knew this would be perfect. I’m such a sucker for a quirky design and the floral lining inside the shade sealed the deal. You can see it through when the lamp is lit too – it’s just so pretty.
Also – teacups! My love of all things tea related is already far too well documented.
This is my perfect light really, isn’t it?
There were many more choices I could have made. A few of my other favourites…
one Copperfield Desk Lamp – Copper
I was really drawn to this one and would have come home with it, but for the fact I wasn’t sure where I would put it at the moment. When we eventually get round to finishing our third storey, and putting our office together, I’ll definitely be back for this for my desk. I love the sleek design, and the gorgeous copper shade. Much more expensive looking than what it actually is!
two House Table Lamp – White
Eva has a very similar light to this on her bedside table and it is still a favourite of mine. A sweet little addition to a child’s bedroom, hall or lounge.
three Habitat Lula Metal Table Lamp – Yellow
Perfectly retro! I love the idea of this in a really bright living space with furniture painted in reds and blues. Maybe a playroom or nursery?
four Recycled Glass Bottle Lamp
I think this would look fantastic in a more industrial room, perhaps on a dark wood unit or navy sideboard.
All-in-all I was so impressed with the selection of lighting that Homebase carries. It is really contemporary, affordable and the designs are a far cry from what I’d expect of a huge DIY retailer.
I’d definitely encourage a look!
