I’m resurrecting my ‘Five Things’ posts in a slightly different format this year, and I thought Fridays were as good a time as any to start sharing them. It’s my favourite day of the week for sure! I also love a bit of structure to my posting so you can be certain, regardless of whatever else goes on over here during the week, this post will be a given. It’s good to catch up with you all!
I feel like, post Christmas, floaty layers are definitely our friend? I’ve been trying so hard to eat healthily but, in the absence of any willpower right now, I’m opting for diversion tactics! Dresses over trousers were totally my jam about ten years ago, but I feel like that boho trend never really dies so I’m just going with it in these Winter months. There’s a tiny bit of me that finds it a little maternity-esque but that’s no bad thing for the bonafide food baby in there! 😉
I’ve been a long time lover of super delicate jewellery and I’m still adoring these sweet rings that I bought in November. They are understated enough to wear everyday, but so pretty. Perfect for layering up too!
Andrew and I went to see All The Money In The World last night and really enjoyed it. I’m a big Ridley Scott fan, and was interested to see how he took to this genre of film. It tells the true story of the kidnap of the grandson of JP Getty, once rumoured to be the world’s richest man. He famously refused to pay the ransom and made headlines for his miserly approach to his own flesh and blood. It’s super stylish, shocking in parts and all the more interesting because of the Kevin Spacey scandal that surrounds the making of it. I’d really recommend!
One of my January resolutions was to start reading again and I’m half way through The Mountain Between Us this week. Andrew and I are both reading it together so we can have our own book club (tragic/sweet, you decide! 😉 ) I’m interested to see the film after too. Just switching off the TV in the evenings and spending an hour in a book has been so helpful to me, both in terms of how I’m sleeping, but also in reigniting my love for words. Excited to get through more of my reading list this month!
Well obviously a week couldn’t go by without me mentioning the office so you’ll be happy to hear that we’ve finally ordered the floor and I’ll stop harping on about it now, ha! We went for a pale oak parquet in the end and I think (really hope!!) it will set off our furniture and exposed brick really nicely. I hadn’t banked on the lead time for it so we’ve a three week wait to get it, followed by a couple of weeks for it to acclimatise in the room. Hoping we can start laying it by the end of February, install the new radiator and finally unveil my pride and joy, the pink sofa!
We’ve also started thinking about plans for the Summer and I’m looking forward to finalising those in the coming weeks!
I’ve been craving vegetables lately (it must be to counteract all that chocolate!) and have taken to making big pots of soup to portion and eat at lunch time each day. I just buy pre-chopped soup veg, add in some vegetable stock and let it simmer for around thirty minutes. It’s easy-peasy and I’m noticing the difference in my skin and hair from absorbing a few more nutrients. I’m really considering trying to go a little more plant based with my diet this year too. I mostly choose the vegetarian option when I’m out for a meal anyway (had the most delicious veggie curry here last night. I’d thoroughly recommend if you are local!) and eat so little meat at home that I don’t think the move would be too difficult. Interested to hear if it’s something you have tried!
I’m planning on making my firecracker guacamole this weekend, and am feeling inspired to create a new cocktail too. Something gin based perhaps? I’ll keep you posted!
Oh! And don’t forget to check out my shopping pages. I’m updating them every week on Fridays so lots of inspiration in time for the weekend!
Have a great one everyone!
