the friday five

how was your week?

I’ve been struggling to feel it this week.  The weather, and the season in general, is leaving me drained of all motivation and Ernie and I are both climbing the walls to be outdoors again.  I feel like everything is better in Summer, isn’t it?  It’s so much easier to eat well, be active and on top of things too.

Still, there’s a season for everything I guess (apparently this is the one of hibernation!) and I’m working hard at just rolling with it.  I’m interested to hear if you have any tips for staying positive through these Winter months!

five things for friday…

Flowers on coffee table

wearing…

I’m completely addicted to polka dots at the moment and realised the other day that everything I’ve bought and worn recently has involved the pattern.  If it ain’t broke and all that!  I’m trying to give my jeans a bit of a rest too, and branch out into something a bit less same-y (we’ll see how it goes.  I always reach first for my denim in the mornings!)

Anyhow, dotty dresses, monochrome blouses and spotty skirts have been on the revolve this week.  There’s definitely a wardrobe theme emerging!

seeing…

bulbs opening up

I bought lots of these little bulb jars from M&S a few weeks ago and they’re starting to show signs of blooming this week.  I get asked quite often where they are from and I’d really recommend them (they also come with succulents in if bulbs aren’t your thing!)  Such good value and when the plants kick the bucket I wash out the glass jars and use them for flowers too!

doing…

Bathroom table

I’m still on track with my self-care goal (you can read more about my monthly goals here!) and have been spending as many evenings as possible making a little sanctuary in my bathroom.  I moved lots of my really nice candles up there and am lighting them, bringing out the good bubble bath (hands up if you spent years soaking in Johnsons baby bath too!  Whatever is handy, eh?) and switching off my mobile.  That headspace is so important for me, particularly in these darker months, and I’m starting to appreciate how crucial it is to look after myself as well as everyone else.  It’s difficult when you are predisposed to think of yourself last in the bunch, but self awareness is different from selfishness I think.  Us mums (and women in general!) need to remember that more often.

planning…

Family trip to Vinci, Tuscany

We’ve started looking in to holiday options for this Summer and thinking about what we’d like to do travel-wise this year.  Originally I had thought about an American road trip maybe, but my heart always comes back to France and Italy and I think we’re pretty settled on a few weeks travelling there instead.  I think we might drive very South this year (we covered the North of Italy two years ago and the middle last year!) and are actually looking into potentially staying on a yacht for a bit too.  You know us – always a bit quirky! 😉

eating…

I had it wolfed down before I even managed to get a picture of it, but we made the most amazing chicken with avocado, pomegranate seeds and brown rice, and aubergine with mozzarella last weekend, both from The Roasting Tin (the one I keep harping on about! #notsponsoredjustobsessed)  It was so simple and delicious and felt very virtuous too.  This weekend I want to try the crispy baked gnocchi.  Lots less virtuous, but if you can’t eat all the carbs in February when can you? 😉

and that was our week!

Don’t forget to check out my shopping pages for Friday updates (I have new Accessories and Beauty pages now too!) and do come and say hello on Instagram throughout the week.

Have a great weekend!

Loving how varied yet how themed your outfits are! The pole-dot pattern suits you so well, honestly though any outfit you wear looks so lovely and you always rock it!

Those little bulbs look so cute! We have some daffodils (my mum’s favourite flower) in the house at the moment but I think a couple of these placed around the house will just bring that little bit of spring (see what I did there) into the decor

Holiday planning is the best! I’ve done america for the past few years but this year I’m finally taking a break to maybe invest in some long weekend trips around Europe which is super exciting! Italy is inching higher and higher on my list so I can’t wait to see where you go and what you suggest and advise.

Here’s to brighter mornings, longer evenings and honestly a little bit of sun!

I’m loving polka dots too – so much I just wrote a whole post about them too! Your bulbs are looking amazing too.
