the friday five

hello there!

I hope you had a great week.  Ours has been full of all the little normalities of the everyday, combined with a snow day mid week which came unexpectedly, just when it was most needed.  That said though, I’m fully over Winter now.  Bring me Spring sunshine please! (I’d even just take a dry day?)

so, what’s new this week?

I feel like straight legged jeans, boots and blouses are my uniform right now.  It’s practical, comfortable, warm and requires very little thought process on these dark and dreary mornings.  I got this one recently and it ticked all the boxes for me.  Polka dots, high neck, black and white (and yellow. I’m having a moment with yellow!)  I’m loving how put together it looks without me trying very hard at all!

blouse, jeans, more ideas here!

Life has been so crazy lately that we literally haven’t watched anything at all this week.  By the time the kiddos are home from their evening activities it’s too late to start into anything, and we’ve been reading a lot more instead.  I finished The Mountain Between Us (still waiting for Andrew to catch up! 😉 ) and really did enjoy it.  The end was a little predictable (it will make for a great Hollywood film though!) but the whole survival against the odds theme was really compelling.  I’m looking forward to watching the film.  Kate Winslet and Idris Elba are the perfect picks for the parts.

ern, forever stealing my seat!

I had all these great work intentions for this week but in truth ninety percent of this business is conducted behind the scenes – setting up new projects, planning and discussing, and then chasing payments too.  I’ve had a baptism of fire into this world of self-employment – I’m learning every day.  But we’ve a few lovely things in the offing, and the excitement of doing what I do means that you never quite know what will appear in your inbox each week.  It’s a far cry from the 9-5 – difficult too in lots of ways! – but I wouldn’t change it for the world.

noah has the weekend vibes down! 😉

I’m trying to make more of an effort on Pinterest this year, and so I’ve been organising and adding to my boards this week.  I love Pinterest as a tool, and use it all the time for my own mood boards and ideas, but I’ve never really thought to align it with things I share on here.  Anyway, if you want to check out my inspirations for upcoming house projects, style ideas and (maybe most importantly) cocktail recipes, then do follow over there!

I’ve been mostly plant-based for a week now and am really enjoying it so far!  As I mentioned before, I don’t eat a lot of meat anyway so it hasn’t been too crazy of a move for me, but I’m definitely seeing the benefits of upping my intake of vegetables.  My skin is the best it has been in months (I’m also drinking a tonne of water and sticking to a trusted skincare regime.  I’ll tell you about it next week!) and, whilst my energy levels are still pretty low, I am feeling less sluggish.  It’s not something that I’m strictly keeping to forever – just taking it week by week and seeing how I go.  So far so good though!

I also bought this book this week, and am excited to try some of the veggie recipes from it.  What appeals to me most is how simple everything sounds.  Chuck it all in a tray and bung it in the oven is definitely my style of cooking!  Hoping I can persuade the gang to try some too.

Have a great weekend everyone!

I’m still eating fish too Pauline. I think i’d find it difficult to go totally veggie but cutting out the meat hasn’t been too difficult so far. It’s making me more creative with my meals too! Xx
