I haven’t put one of these posts together in a couple of weeks now and they’re always the most fun to write, so I thought I’d share a bit of what we’ve been up to lately!
Andrew and I were saying the other evening how the pace of life at the moment is totally incessant. Is that a general thing do you think, or just something common to us? I mean, it feels as if we’ve constantly ten things on the go at once, and are not doing very well at any of them. The week is all about keeping your head above water I feel – juggling on the regular. We’re lucky to be sitting down by 10pm in the evenings, and then we’re too exhausted string a sentence together, ha! It’s maybe the rose tinted glasses speaking again, but I yearn a little for the days of 7pm bedtimes, I’ll not lie! Anyhow, I’m interested to hear if you have it all mastered. Send me your wisdom please!
For that reason I took a little social media break for a week recently and it was totally clarifying for me, in terms of checking my priorities and the places where I focus my energies. The nature of doing what I do, means that I’m online pretty much every day, even through holiday periods too. Being self-employed, I’m learning, is all about never stopping. It’s intense and overwhelming at times and, after a crazy busy Summer and early Autumn, I was just totally burnt out. I’m not the best at being my own boss (the holidays I give are pretty rubbish 😉 ) and it’s a learning process for me even still. What I’m realising is that the time you take away is as important as what you bring. ‘You can’t pour from an empty cup’, isn’t that the saying?
So what’s new with us?
Well the Christmas fever is starting to creep in. For the first time today I actually felt properly festive (is this wrong? Too early?) I blame it on my spiced candle and the huge bunch of Eucalyptus that I picked up from my local florist the other day. Nothing screams festive cheer to me more than the scent of it. The weather has got decidedly chillier with us too, and I’ve had to search out my gloves for wearing on walks with Ernie.
My friend Sonni sent me over some of her beautiful 2017 Christmas card and packaging designs recently, and I’m dying about the whole pink, gold and green theme. I mean, you know that I adore anything from Sonni and Blush, but festive Sonni and Blush is just that extra bit special!

I’m thinking forest green might be my new obsession in interiors as well, especially teamed with millennial pink. Inspired by Sonni’s designs I’m now on the hunt for some green soft accessories for my pink sofa. How very 2018 I am! 😉
Speaking of green, the plant situation in our house is getting a bit out of control and I absolutely love it! 🙂 It’s basically 95% jungle and that’s no bad thing in my book. Recent additions include several little succulents and some ivy, which I’m draping on any available surface. It takes me a good forty five minutes to water them all on a Saturday morning, but I feel any good thing in life needs nurturing, right? They are my plant babies for sure!

Clothing wise, it has been all about the cosy jumpers for me. I’m currently battling another cold and all I want to do is wrap up in knitwear at the moment. This one is a favourite and, after getting it at the end of September, I shelved it for a little while to wear in the colder days. it has made a grand reappearance now though and it’s pretty much all I want to wear right now!
The biggest news is that I’m going to be undergoing a makeover of this little space very soon. I’ve been blogging for almost four years now, and have had a few changes within that time. I’ve been feeling recently that I’d like a fresh, contemporary look and feel – one where the images and words would have proper space to be showcased. It has also been on my mind for a while to change the name of the blog to something a little more generic. Little Wood has been so much at the heart of everything I’ve created here, from its inception. House and home has always been my main focus but, as my children get older and as I move into other areas creatively too, I’m conscious that Life at the Little Wood is a marker that is very specific to us and our place right now. I have several new projects that I’d like to pursue in the future, and I’m keen to marry those together with my online forum too. Sharing and developing with you guys (my goodness, growing up! I feel like such a different person to what I was four years ago) is always what keeps me coming back here, and that will definitely not change, for as long as anyone wants to read. I think I just feel that, going forward, it might be wise to choose a name that could cover a range of different endeavours and tangents. Does that make sense?
I have some ideas in mind, and they’ll definitely still encompass the core values of LATLW. It’s something I’m thinking carefully about anyway and I will definitely keep you posted on it all as it progresses.
I hope you have a lovely weekend everyone, whatever you get up to!
