We made this most festive of drinks last weekend over on InstaStories and I thought I’d record it here too because it was so, so good! I’m not the biggest fan of mulled wine but I hate missing out on an excuse to drink something super festive so, when we came across this recipe, all my Christmasses arrived at once! 😉 It’s spicy and sweet, thanks to the maple syrup and ginger it contains, but it also packs a real punch too. I ended up topping mine up with boiling water to dilute it a little – also a good idea if you wanted to make a large batch for guests.
Mulled Pear Cocktail
Ingredients
500ml pear cider
25g root ginger, sliced
2 cinnamon sticks
zest of half an orange
50ml Calvados
3tsp maple syrup
apple slice, cinnamon sticks and pine frond to garnish
Method
- Place pear cider and sliced ginger in a pan over a medium, heat. Bring to a simmer and leave for five minutes. Add cinnamon stick and orange zest and continue to simmer until liquid has reduced by half. Remove from the heat and strain through a sieve.
- Pour Calvados and maple syrup into the base of a mug or heatproof glass, then pour over 65ml of hot mulled cider. Add boiling water to top up if desired.
- Garnish and serve warm!
We had ours with cheese and crackers for the best Sunday afternoon treat. Christmas in a glass!
