Five Things For The Weekend…

Happy December everyone!

What are you up to this weekend?  I hope your festive preparations are in full swing anyway (although don’t tell me if you’ve all your gifts wrapped and Tesco delivery slot booked.  You know how it panics me so! 😉 )

This weekend for us, kicks off the festive fun properly.  We are getting our big tree at some stage, and are so looking forward to finishing off the decorating together as a family.  We filmed this little video last year, and I really love looking back at it, so I might try to do one again this year, time permitting.  I’m never going to be a vlogger, and I still love photos first and foremost, but it’s nice to have the memories on special occasions like this I think. (Plus, it gives you a closer look at Little Wood in all her festive attire!)

I’ve a big home post planned for next week, so I hope you’ll maybe check back for that.

Anyway, on to some little things I’m hoping to squeeze in this weekend!

{Reading}  A few years ago now we made the decision to stop sending cards at Christmas and donate the cost of them (plus postage) to a charity instead.  We still wish our nearest and dearest the very best of the season (and this way it encourages us to do it in person instead!) but liked the notion that 100% of our money would reach a charity, rather than just a percentage if we bought charity benevolent cards.  I still do buy some for the little three to send though, via their school postal service (which supports a charity by selling sheets of ‘stamps’) and I really love these country themed ones for a little quirky, retro appeal.  This weekend I’ll be reading their little messages to all their classmates!

{Watching}  We recently received this beautiful advent calendar from Laura Ashley, and whilst I’ve just kept it really simple in most of the drawers this year (chocolate and sweets!), in the odd little one I’ve included a note with an activity for us to do.  This weekend it’s watching a classic holiday season film, and I can’t wait to snuggle up with my favourite four (FIVE – Ernie always has to get in on the action too!) for some festive viewing by firelight.

{Pinning}  I’m absolutely loving all things Scandinavian in décor at the moment, and particularly for Christmas.  My Country Christmas board is just full of beautiful ideas that I’ve gathered, and we are going to try to recreate this one this weekend.  Wish us luck, and minimal arguments! 🙂

{Eating}  Last weekend, for the first time in ages, we made a proper roast dinner and I’ve kind of got the notion for it now.  There’s something about this time of year, isn’t there?  I think Winter Sundays were built for cosy fires and full bellies, and so we’ll be recreating it this weekend again too.

{Wearing}  We’ll be donning our Christmas knits for tree shopping.  I have this gorgeous one, and Annie will be wearing this little beauty (I really want it in my size!)  Ernie is even getting in the spirit with this little collar! There’s always one obnoxious Christmas family, and we are most definitely it! 🙂

I hope you have a wonderful weekend, whatever you have planned.  Just two more until Christmas, yikes!

E x

Such a lovely video and love the trees 🙂 We always put a very big real tree (10 foot+) in our sun room but I am reconsidering this year as it is so wet and the tree is so large that it creates a bit of a mess, plus all of the crawlies. We get it ourselves in the woods next to our house but they are all really large now so difficult to get even a 10 foot one. Might buy a good artificial one which will do for years… Looking forward to seeing your decorating for this year 🙂
