‘And to make an end is to make a beginning.’ (TS Eliot)

Before we get too far into January, I really wanted to share a few pictures from our Christmas break.  It absolutely flew in (I feel I say that about pretty much every week at the moment!) and I really wasn’t ready for it to be over.  There’s not an awful lot to love about these wintery weeks from now up until Spring, is there?  I’ve been filling the house with hyacinth bulbs and little daffodils, in the hope that they’ll see me through these dreary days.  And trying to talk Mr M into all sorts of grand Summer plans.  I’m ready for it to be June right about now!

But this Christmas was a lovely one, and I really felt that I relaxed, which isn’t something we Martins are particularly expert at.  Our forte is busy. We do busy brilliantly. 🙂

Anyway, a few pictures from the past couple of weeks, if you’d like to see!

It was especially lovely having an extra member in the family this Christmas!  If you’d told me at the beginning of 2015 that I’d be a dog owner, and a totally smitten one at that, I’d never have believed you.  Which just goes to show how much can change in a year!  Ernie has just slotted right into our lives here and makes us all smile a lot.  He’s getting so big now too!

The weather was mostly terrible over the Christmas break, but we always try our best to get outside when we can.  These few pictures were taken in a (brief!) sunny break in the rain, when the cabin fever was just reaching fever pitch.  Fresh air and blue sky, even momentarily, really cheers my soul!

We were delighted when Jenny and her family mentioned that they’d be staying close by over the holidays, and even moreso when they made time in their busy schedule to come and visit for a couple of days.  I love it when online friends become real friends, and our two families just clicked so well.  We ventured to Belfast (on probably the busiest shopping day ever. The people!!), ate lots of food, and managed a walk in the Winter sun too.  It was lovely to get to know them properly, and we are looking forward to many more visits soon!

I shared this picture in my last post, but it’s my new favourite, so forgive me for putting it here too! 🙂  The challenge of getting three children and a puppy to stay still long enough to snap them is like no other.  And for that reason, as much as anything, I’m chalking this one up as a win!  We took this (and the 67 billion others, let’s be real) on the first day of  this brand new year.  The light was awful, Ernie kept trying to lick my face (he’s a licker!) and Annie was finding it hard to keep her arms under control but, you know, this is life at the moment.  We work with what we’ve got!

Anyway, all’s well that ends well, and the better for it too.

See you later 2015.  Thanks for being so very good to us!

E x
